August 8, 2026

Again, no picture. I am definitely falling down on the job! I'm sure next month will be better...

Our book selection, Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke, did indeed create the need for more discussion than our book last month. In fact it started weeks before our gathering with several comments back and forth from people disturbed during the reading. Yes, we understand that was no doubt the intent of the author, but having an extremely uncomfortable read wasn't our norm. And it certainly did facilitate strong feelings and an excellent discussion so well done Ms. Burke!

Though it was August, it was a bit chilly outside when we arrived so we gathered inside to share. As per normal we talked and talked and left hours later to a nice warm afternoon. We chose Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth as our next read. It was described as very funny and a marked departure from the angst of our recent book.

There was a much larger number of us this month as several of our travelers returned from their trips, both abroad and in our own continent. Our busy group hid away on the outdoor deck, everyone leaning in to catch all the news buzzing around. Tales of wonderful travels were appreciated by one and all. It seems returning to idyllic foreign places was a constant theme.

We spent precious time, though, talking about our book, The Keeper by Tana French. This was the 3rd book in her series about Cal Hooper's life as a transplanted Chicago cop in rural Ireland. Though we had enjoyed the book, I'll admit the conversations were more of a personal nature than our reading this month.

We may give next month's selection, Yesteryear, a better discussion this coming month.
